Currently located in the inner city of Calgary, Alberta, we are two urbanites who have an interest in eating local and organic food. We want to eat food that we love – and we love food that we have a connection with, whether by growing it ourselves, connecting with the places near Calgary that grow food for us, or choosing to buy the bulk of our food from places that sell organic and in-season foods.
That isn’t to say that any of these above thoughts are hard and fast rules for our household. We still enjoy going out to eat in Calgary restaurants and oranges are found pretty consistently in our fruit bowl, but we are trying to do our best and learn how to bring more of these principles into our everyday meals.
We’re experimenting with growing a lot of our summer vegetables from seed this year, converting most of the space we formerly knew as “lawn” into edible gardens, and backyard beekeeping with our first hive. The results of our efforts will be posted on the blog along with some of the neat things that we find out about along the way in the local food communities.
